The Trail (and trials) of Tandem Tales

By now, you have probably figured out the symbolism between the tandem tales and marriage. As my stories portray, there are times when marriage rides along smoothly, not a cloud in the sky, everything is harmonious, and the camaraderie is pleasant and fun, like the romance of the tandem.

Then, there are times when everything seems to be an uphill battle, the journey is more difficult than expected, there are frustrations at every turn, and only sheer stubborn determination keeps you rolling, like the work of the tandem.

For some, marriage has gone way past the stage of uphill struggle, to the point of pain, anguish, and despair. One partner has gotten off the path, and the other is unwillingly dragged along, and the resultant painful scars tell the tale of the pain of the tandem (I have a tale for you, too, that I’ll share some day.)

We’ll talk about these different journeys in the days ahead. Meanwhile, let me encourage you that on whatever trail you are in your marriage, you do not travel alone. Your sisters throughout the ages have traveled and travailed these same trails. They have been discouraged, broken and in despair, have prevailed through the difficulties, and triumphed and celebrated the joys and successes. Their tears are a memorial along the trail.

Of even greater encouragement is the One who promises to be a husband to those whose husband has abandoned his post (Isaiah 54:5), and promises that you do not have to suffer shame for your partner’s choices. In this series, I’ll focus on the WORK of marriage, but I’ll not pretend that it’s always romantic or without pain.

For my sisters who have been dragged through the pain of a partner who took the wrong path, do not despair. There is a place of healing and restoration, either for both of you, or for you alone. The loneliness of broken promises cannot be wished away, but it can be replaced by a true love that is not dependent on human character or the frailty of human choices.

Let’s ride together for awhile, as we take a journey to explore The WORK of Marriage.
