Who can find a virtuous woman? For her value is far above rubies! She is an amazingly average woman, who has discovered that the secret to success in being a wonderful wife, and a woman of God, is in the simple and easy things that every woman can choose to do, with the gifts she has been granted. And here is something else she does that is amazingly easy.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good. Proverbs 31:18a
She knows her own mind.
She has an opinion.
She can tell good from bad.
She doesn’t need to ask the opinion of others.
She is confident in her choices.
Abigail walked among the shade of the grape arbor, stretching out her hand to pluck the deeply colored grapes from a lush cluster, swaying full and abundant on the vine. As she crushed the crisp orbs between her teeth, a sweet sugary goodness washed over her tongue, and she closed her eyes as her taste buds analyzed the flavors of the fruit.
Still dangling the bunch of grapes from her hand, she walked a few paces and plucked some smaller violet grapes from a nearby vine, and popped several into her mouth. Her lips puckered and her brow furrowed with the tart and tantalizing flavors that tingled on her tongue.
With a brightening of her eyes, she held both bunches up, and with her teeth, tugged a grape from each bunch, and breathed deeply while she chewed, and caressed the fruit with her tongue, trying to touch each taste bud to the tart sweetness of the combined juices. She plucked one more of the sweet berries, and smiled with pleasure as she said with calm assurance, “That’s good.”
She hurried to the vats and told her maidens to mix the two varieties of grapes at the appropriate ratio to create a new and vibrant flavor. And it was good!
And it wasn’t difficult to do this. She didn’t have to possess those insurable taste buds like those wine-taster guys have! It was all subjective — opinion. Like her own unique personality, the flavor she selected was one-of-a-kind, based on the resources at her immediate disposal, and her own personal desire that day.
It is important to understand that the value came in her ability to choose, her confidence in her choice, and her willingness to take pride and authority in her selection.
You can do that, too! Sometimes you just have to decide. Make a decision, Trust your judgment. You have good taste. . . at something! Find out what area you can assess with discrimination, and get tasting!
