Day 46 In The Countdown of Encouragement: God’s Will For Your Marriage

It is God’s will that your husband be the spiritual leader of your family, and that he should lead with integrity and honor, and that he should offer prayers for the family, and that he should love you like Christ loves the church.

That is God’s will in Heaven. And we are to pray that God’s will is accomplished on earth as it is in Heaven.

Unfortunately, woman has taken over and thwarted the original plan and will of God on earth, with that first rebellious taste of the fruit. You’ve heard the story, but, do you really know about the first wrong of all creation?

You might think it was Eve tasting that fruit, but it was really in Adam abdicating his role of spiritual leader of the family.

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Genesis 2:15-17

God placed man in the garden as the caretaker, and took great care to train him in his duties. And then God gave him a great gift, a beautiful, soft, sensitive, loving, caring, woman to help him, to complete him, to multiply his efforts with her help, and with her ability to reproduce and give him children and descendants — a future. It was very good.

And then, the first sin occurred (for doubt and deception did not become sin until Eve disobeyed and ate the fruit. . .)

“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband. . .

But there was a wrong that occurred before Eve put the fruit to her lips. And here is the root of the first sin:

. . .who was with her, and he ate it. Genesis 3:6

How incredibly sad. Her husband was with her. He watched her sin, and he did not stop her. He knew what was right, and to know what is right and not do it is sin. He had received incredible spiritual guidance, insight, authority, and direction from God. He was in charge of the garden, and thus husbandman of the tree. He was head over his wife, and he abdicated his role and did nothing to stop Eve from plunging and plummeting mankind into evil, pain and death.

It is God’s will that the man help the woman to be strong, to recognize and resist sin, and to be her spiritual guide, and declare the oracles of God to his family, and to make sure that his family is preserved, and that his descendants are strong and full of integrity, and spiritually able to lead their families into the future.

Is God’s will being accomplished in your family?

In the absence of spiritual leadership in your family, you dear woman, have the responsibility to pick up that mantle, to wear it, to operate in spiritual power and authority on your knees as you storm heaven with your prayers, and drive back the enemy with your faith and the word.

And this isn’t just for women whose husbands are not in church. If your husband takes you to church, but abdicates his spiritual leadership in the home, then you need to pray fervently for him, too. He might need it more than others who are more black and white. If he’s gray on spiritual leadership, then even if he’s playing the role, it needs to become real in his heart.

So, I would like to encourage you to begin to pray that God’s will be accomplished in your marriage, in your home, as He has ordained and decreed it in Heaven. And this is a battle that is won without words.

It won’t do any good to tell your husband about this — obviously he’s not doing it — and you telling him to do it won’t be effective. Talk to God about it, and He can change your husband. It might take thirteen years, or more, but your prayers can be the catalyst that prompts the Good Shepherd to come looking for his lost lamb.

Pray, dear sister. And pray for your other sisters who are stained with the sin of the fruit of their own disobedience, and whose hands are sticky with the sin of their husband’s abdication, that all would be redeemed, and that what the enemy meant for evil, God can turn into good.
