The Power Of Two

Consider the power available when you and your husband agree together in prayer.

God says about marriage, “The two shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24).

There is something spiritual and supernatural that occurs when a man and woman covenant together in unity.

A commonplace and often overlooked miracle that demonstrates the power of the unity of marriage is the fact that one tiny fragment of a man, and small sliver of a woman come together to create a new life, a combination of the genetic characteristics of the two individuals becoming one flesh.

The power of two!

Similarly, when two people agree together, their individual power combines to produce a force of much greater impact than available to two separate individuals.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.  Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”  Matthew 18:18-20

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:  if one falls down, his friend can help him up.  But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!  Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone?  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”  Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

In spiritual terms, in marriage (mathematically speaking), 1 + 1 >2 !!

I hope you consider how powerful your marriage is.  Marriage is blessed by God to be powerful in order to protect, preserve, provide for your family, and to create a heritage that will last to the fourth generation!

May your effect be multiplied through your children, and through the unified efforts of you and your husband working together to accomplish great works through Christ.

Be fruitful and multiply!

  1. If you and your husband seem to be on different courses, don’t lose heart. Pray that God would unify your efforts.
  2. Journal your heart’s desire — if you could write a perfect story of you and your husband working together — what would it be?
  3. If the only thing you and your husband accomplished in life was creating children — what dreams do you have for your children and grandchildren and great grandchildren to effect the world in significant ways?
