Watch your thoughts. They become words. Watch your words. They become deeds. Watch your deeds. They become habits. Watch your habits. They become character. Character is everything.” Attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson
Since, we humans are led by the thoughts of our heart and mind, which eventually become actions, it is imperative that we allow our mind to feast on proper thoughts.
Good. . . evil. . . good. . . evil. . . woe to those who call evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). . . woe to the creature who convinced the innocent humans to partake of the chaos of good vs. evil (Genesis 3). . . the knowledge of good and evil. . . the choice between the two without the experience or wisdom to know the difference.
And yet, we continue to partake of the morsels of moral decay as we consider what is right in our own eyes, regardless of and in defiance of the wisdom of God. [tweet this].
Good. . . evil. . . .good. . . evil. . . we are constantly barraged by thoughts that race through our heads, either for good or evil. Just as when we crave junk food, but instead feast on fresh veggies, it is up to us to take the evil thoughts captive, and to feast on the good stuff:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
Today’s Marriage Challenge: Purpose in your heart today to think only good thoughts toward your husband (honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, praise worthy). If your mind begins to dwell on evil thoughts, immediately exercise self-control and eliminate those thoughts, by replacing them with good thoughts.
You might be surprised how often your mind tends to feast on evil instead of good. Practice fasting* those thoughts today!
*fasting refers to the principle of temporarily denying oneself the pleasure of something tangible (like food) in order to concentrate on something more valuable (like spiritual reflection and prayer).
