Today’s Marriage Tip:   Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. The price for love and intimacy, is in being willing to give another person the power to hurt you, and yet not be so afraid of being crushed that you pull back in fear. Ultimately you must trust that the Lord is the lifter of your head.

For those of you who are struggling with concern or fear that if you become vulnerable, you might be wounded or destroyed. . . that it will be more than your tender heart can bear, let me encourage you with this verse.

“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.  For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.  Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame.  Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.  You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.  For your Maker is your husband — the LORD Almighty is his name — the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.”  Isaiah 54:2-5

God will not ask you to do anything that will ultimately destroy you. He knows that vulnerability is a pathway that leads to glory. For did He not also say:

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”  James 4:10

And. . .

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God.” James 4:6b-7a

Need some grace today?  Humble yourself and become vulnerable.

Need some lifting up?  It begins with kneeling down. Today is a good day for that!

“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!  Therefor God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:8-11.
