Have you ever had to pick up sticks? It was quite possibly my least favorite chore as a child. To prepare the yard so my dad could mow, we kids would be recruited to walk the grass and pick up stray sticks. Poky, pointy, scratchy sticks. To me it seemed like such a tedious task to spot, gather, and carry them to wherever their new home would be.  I still don’t like that job much, if I’m being honest.

Do you ever feel like you’re going through your day picking up sticks of a different kind? Maybe you’ve had one or two of those days where you have gathered offense, bitterness, anger, indignation? Too many days like that can really take their toll on you. What a burden it is to carry those things around! They poke holes in your peace, point you towards defeat, and scratch away your joy.

“30 Days to Lay Aside Weight” is a book that is about more than just trying to shave off a few extra, unwanted pounds. It’s about putting off those things that can weigh down your mind and your spirit, too. It’s about creating new, positive habits that add health to your life in all its facets. It’s about persevering in the race that has been set before you.

Is there anything in your life that is hindering you?  Today, we think about those things that we would like to remove from our life, and pray for God’s help to lay them aside.  Praying with you, Sister!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. – Hebrews 12:1
