In our journey through Shari’s e-book “30 Days to Lay Aside Weight”, we endeavor to identify and put off those things in our lives that are weighing us down in mind, body, or soul. Shari’s devotional e-book is founded on the theme of Hebrews 12:1 –
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
In our Day 20 devotion, though, we’re encouraged to pick up something extra: the burden of a friend. Galatians 6:2 KJV says “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
It’s a real blessing to me whenever someone says “I’ve been praying for you.” There have been times when I have had others praying for me even before I had shared with them a prayer request. I know their prayers were the result of their obedience to the Holy Spirit’s whisper: “Lift her up before Me. She needs it.”
Do you know someone who is carrying a care or concern on her heart? Today, we want to be that prayer warrior for those we know who are shouldering a burden, or for those whom God lays on our heart. We will think of them throughout the day and when we do, we will bring them boldly before the throne of grace and petition our loving Heavenly Father on their behalf, that they may find mercy and grace to help in their time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Intercessory prayer is a not only a blessing to those for whom we are praying, but to us also, as we are used of God in the work He is doing in the lives of others.
And if the Spirit directs, perhaps we will go a little further and add to the list of things we pick up today – maybe the phone to call them, or a card to send them, or a special gift we know will encourage them.
Let’s be burden bearers for someone today!
